´╗┐Sustainability Statement

´╗┐Carolina Table Manufacturing was involved in reusing and recycling of materials before it was the fashionable thing to do. We are committed to employing environmentally responsible procedures throughout all phases of the manufacturing process, as well as protecting and preserving our natural resources.

We have instituted a variety of environmentally friendly manufacturing technologies and innovative plant management procedures which allow us to conserve energy, reduce waste and reclaim materials and components.

We partner with vendors who are equally committed to adhering to environmental regulations and are members of the Forest Stewardship Council "who promote responsible production and consumption of forest products." We purchase raw materials from local suppliers and from domestic and renewable sources.

Production Materials
The woods we use are harvested by suppliers who regularly reseed their lands. Our lumber vendors use advanced reforestation and land management techniques. We do not use wood from old growth forests or rainforests.

Table substrates are made of formaldehyde-free MDF (medium density fiberboard) which is made from 100% recycled lumber and wood products. This compressed material, which has the high tensile strength required for our products, incorporates wood chips and sawdust that would otherwise have found their way to landfills.

Our milling and sanding departments use state-of-the-art technologies to capture and reuse all sawdust and particles. The sanding department is equipped with a dust collection system that reduces airborne contaminants within the building and maintains a clean and healthy working environment for our employees.

The scrap wood and sawdust are collected until we have accumulated a full truck load. The shipment is then transported to one of our local hardwood suppliers who use these remainders and byproducts to fuel their kilns in order to dry more hardwood.

We use water-based adhesives, solvents, stains and finishes.

All our waste solvents are recycled in a distillation process. As a result, over 80% of the distilled material is so pure that it is able to be reused by the finishing department. The remainder, called still bottoms, is used to fuel a boiler at a neighboring factory.

Packaging and Shipping
Pallets and materials for our crates are reused, procured or collected on a reclaiming basis from other businesses in close proximity to our factory.
Original packaging supplies, such as corrugated boxes, are made of 60% post-consumer recycled products and we incorporate bio-degradable packing materials.
When shipping finished products or receiving raw materials, we work with carriers to schedule back hauls to avoid deadhead runs and encourage fuel conservation.

Office Procedures
We are diligent about examining all our operations, including office practices, in order to reduce our environmental impact. This includes enacting recycling programs for paper, ink cartridges, plastic bottles, and aluminum cans.

We learned a long time ago that identifying and implementing sustainable practices and production methods isn't just the right thing to do, it's the smart thing to do - for the environment, our customers and our bottom line.
